Tackling the challenges of remote working
When I worked in an international technology team, team leads needed to find ways to enable less experienced people in other locations to shadow more experienced team members and learn from them. And more generally, it was challenging to create a common culture across such a diverse team. One leader would often muse about whether we could create a “virtual water cooler” for people to spend time getting to know each other.
In this post-COVID world we are seeing even more challenges, including an increase in anxiety and people just not enjoying work, maybe because it is lacking the human touch.
I work with organisations to help them create more connection amongst team members. As a certified Positive Intelligence Coach, I take them through a 6 month programme which can be run entirely online if needed.
Typical before and after metrics we might look at are: reduce sick leave and attrition, improve key performance indicators and employee satisfaction scores.
A typical programme runs as follows:
A member of the leadership team does the mental fitness foundation programme alone or in a small group, hosted by me, and finds it powerful, and decides to offer it to the rest of the organisation
I run a Lunch & Learn (1 hour) to give your people a glimpse of the benefits of improving their mental fitness, both at work and at home
I run a workshop (2-3 hours) which takes people a level deeper, exploring the impact that their saboteurs have on them and the people around them. Even the nay-sayers start to see how useful this could be, at work and at home.
We run the mental fitness foundation programme (6 weeks) for one team or multiple teams. We can roll it out in phases or in one go. I run weekly calls where we help people connect with the organisation’s priorities.
We proceed to the next phase. We have a 2 hour workshop every month (over 4 months), to support your team to apply what they have learned and continue to grow their mental fitness and build stronger connections, despite being in different geographical locations. We focus on specific applications, such as Coaching others, Raising emotional intelligence, Stress management. Throughout the programme I work with the sponsor/HR to keep an eye on our agreed priorities and metrics and course-correct as needed.
This can be combined with 1:1 business & leadership coaching to members of the leadership team.
